Sustainable Energy Integration in Cities: A case study of Solar Rooftops with reference to Mysuru City
(National Law School of India University, 2017) Chakki, Nithin
The research tries to study the ‘Karnataka Solar Rooftop Policy, 2014’ with special focus on Mysuru city which has been chosen as a model solar city by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The research tries to understand the how the existing solar policy in the state can aid the goal of Mysuru becoming a model solar city which can be replicated to other cities by providing the linkages from not only the organisational perceptive but also from the end users who are the citizens. It makes use of mixed method approach to collect data and takes customer feedback to know the effectiveness of the solar rooftop policy which is feasible to implement at the grass roots level. It makes use of statistical tool to analyse the data collected and cross tab to find the relation between variables. Theoretical concepts such as Systems Theory were used to in identifying variables and indicators. The data being collected was analysed using statistical tools like percentage, pie charts, bar graphs, frequency and tabulations. The research findings show the responses of solar utility providers, and end user citizens towards the overall functioning of Solar Policy in the state. The findings also realises that the Institutional factors( Infrastructure, Human Resource and capacity building have linkages and are associated in overall effective delivery of promoting solar rooftop in complimenting, if not providing an alternative to the city energy demand and need while citizen factors (energy demand use, environmental awareness) are known influence less in overall push towards solar renewable
