Abstract

This dissertation focuses on the quality of life and economic and social participation of persons with disabilities. Although organizations like the NSSO and PLFS calculate the total number of persons with disabilities, they do not provide information on their participation and economic status, which affects policy implications for them. There are several existing research on the socio-economic status of Persons with Disabilities which explore their situation in the Indian Context. This research aims to understand and validate the existing finding by exploring the relationship between individual impairment and employment and how different categories of impairment affect job opportunities and economic status for Persons with Disabilities. It will also examine the impact of social stigma and discrimination on employability. The study will analyze the essence of an individual's self-perception regarding their productivity and how external factors affect their participation. The research will contribute to the understanding of the employment challenges faced by persons with disabilities and how organizations and NGOs can work together to overcome them.
